Furman Grabs Lead On Opening Day Of Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior Haylee Harford (-4) fired an opening round 68 to tie for first place, helping the Furman women's golf team (-5) into first place on Friday at the 46th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

Harford, a native of Leavittsburg, Ohio, birdied No. 6 and No. 8 to make the turn at one-under then tallied four birdies on the back, including birdies on three out of four holes from No. 10 through No. 13.  Following Friday's round, Harford and Lorena Tseng of Tulsa lead the field by one stroke.  

Paladin junior Natalie Srinivasan (-2) carded a two-under 70 with five birdies, including four on the back nine, to earn a share of fifth place, while senior Jacqueline Bendrick (-1) shot one-under with three birdies to hold a share of seventh after the opening 18 holes. Sophomore Carly Burkhardt (+2) posted a first round 74 with a birdie on No. 10 to tie for 24th, and junior Marra Burton (+5) added a 77 with a birdie on No. 13 to tie for 56th for the Paladins.

Furman freshman Kyra Cox (-3), playing as an individual, birdied her first two holes and also shot a two-under on the back nine to move into a share of third place at three-under 69.  Sophomore Caitlin Cotterill (-1) tallied a one-under 71 with four birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17, to enter Saturday's second round tied for seventh, and sophomore Madison Moosa (+3) carded a 75 with two birdies, tying for 34th.

The Paladins' first round 283 paced second place North Florida (-1) by four strokes, while Kennesaw State (+2) notched a two-over 290 to grab third place and Coastal Carolina (+5) moved into fourth with a 293. Augusta (+7) registered an opening round 295 to hold fifth place after 18 holes.

The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with final round play slated for Sunday at 8 a.m.  Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will play in a group with North Florida and Kennesaw State.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via and
