Hirai Tied For Eighth, No. 7 Paladins In Fourth Place At SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, FLA. -- Senior Reona Hirai (+1)  is tied for eighth and the seventh-ranked Furman women's golf team is in fourth place after two rounds of play Saturday at the SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational this weekend at the par 70, 6,002 yard Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

Hirai, a native of Summerville, S.C., fired a 69 with birdies on No. 7 and No. 12 in the morning and added a 72 with three birdies in the afternoon to finish the day seven strokes back of leader Jiwon Jeon (-6) of Daytona State, who has a two-round total of 68-66=134.

Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+2) is tied for 13th after carding an even 70 with a team-high three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4, in round one and scoring a 72 with an additional three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 16 & No. 17 in the afternoon.

Sophomore Natalie Srinivasan (+4) and junior Haylee Harford (+4) are tied for 19th after two rounds.  Srinivasan recorded a 73 with a birdie on No. 1 in the first round and a 71 with a birdie on No. 4 in the second round.  Harford carded a 73 with a birdie on No. 3 in round one and added a 71 with three birdies in round two.  Senior Alice Chen (+6) started with a 76 in the first round and rebounded with an even 70 with three birdies in the afternoon to tie for 34th. 

Sophomore Marra Burton, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 62nd after tallying a 78 with two birdies in the first round and a 75 with two birdies in the second round.

Host Florida (-1) , which is ranked 12th nationally, holds a five-stroke lead over Campbell (+4).  Tennessee (+7) is third, followed by the Paladins (+9).  Clemson (+13) completes the top five.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.  Furman will tee off of holes No. 7 through 7 and play in a group with Clemson and Daytona State.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via and
