PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. -- The Furman women's golf team remains in second place, while sophomore Taylor Totland (+1) moved into a tie for second place after firing a one-under 70 to lead the Paladins (+16) Monday in the second day of play at the Golfweek Program Challenge at the par-71, 6,123 yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.  The round commenced after a five-hour rain delay this morning.

Totland birdied No. 6 and parred all 17 other holes to finish the round with a two-day total of 143.  The Tinton Falls, N.J., native is two strokes behind leader Taylor Dodson (-1) of Gardner-Webb, who fired a 69 on Monday for a two-round total of 141.

The Paladins (+16) gained two strokes on Campbell (+14) on Monday after posting a team score of 291.  The Camels hold a slight two-stroke lead over Furman going into Tuesday's final round after shooting a nine-over 293 in the tournament's second round.  Garner-Webb (+25) moved into third place on Monday, nine strokes behind the Paladins, while Old Dominion (+27) fell to fourth place in the women's competition.

"I was proud of the girls today," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester, who is in her third year at the helm of the Paladin program.  "We had a five-hour rain delay, and everyone had to remain really patient.  We didn't get off to a great start, but everyone settled into the round and finished well.  Taylor's 70 was an outstanding score on a tough day."

Paladin junior Valentina Romero (+2) birdied No. 8 and No. 11, recording a 73 on Monday, to complete the round tied for fourth, while rookie Alice Chen (+6) carded a 74 with a birdie on No. 3 to tie for ninth heading into the tournament's final round.  Senior Laura DeMarco (+7) moved into a tie for 15th after notching three-straight birdies on No. 9 through 11, scoring a 74 on Monday.  Freshman Jacqueline Bendrick (+8) birdied No. 8 and No. 15, also scoring a 74 in the second round, to tie for 23rd.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament, which includes a women's stroke play tournament at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and a men's competition at True Blue Plantation, begins Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.
