Carlozzi Tied For 14th At Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Sophomore Stephanie Carlozzi (+2) fired a 73 to tie for 14th place to lead the Furman women's golf team Friday in the first day of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,142 yard Long Cove Course in Hilton Head Island, S.C.   

Carlozzi registered back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5 to make the turn at one under then parred eight holes on the back nine to finish the day at two over, just six strokes back of 4th-ranked Stephanie Meadow of Alabama, who led the field after shooting a four-under 67 in the opening round.

Paladin freshman Taylor Totland (+3) carded a 74 in Friday's first round, finishing just one stroke back of Carlozzi, after birdying No. 7 and No. 15 to finish the day tied for 22nd.  Sophomore Valentina Romero (+9), who registered at birdie on No. 12, and senior Aubrie Street (+9) each shot an 80 to tie for 72nd on Friday, while freshman Macy McRaney (+12) concluded the tournament's first round in a tie for 80th.

#3 Duke (E) leads the field with an even 284, nine strokes ahead of #14 Vanderbilt (+9) and #8 Alabama (+9) who are tied at 293 after 18 holes of play.  #13 South Carolina (+10) is fourth with a ten-over 294, while #29 North Carolina completes the top five at +11 entering Saturday's second round.  The Paladins (+23) are tied for 14th with #24 Kentucky after one day of competition.

"Conditions were really difficult today, and we just weren't able to take advantage of the few opportunities we had," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester.  "Hopefully, we can regroup and play a little better tomorrow."

Second round play of the 54-hole tournament, which features 12 teams ranked in the top 25 in the latest Golfstat rankings, begins Saturday at 8 a.m.  The tournament will conclude on Sunday.

The Paladins will tee off Saturday beginning at 8:45 a.m. from hole number 10.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Live tournament scoring will also be available via
