Hanahan, S.C. – Junior Aubrie Street (+17) posted a team-best 76 on Tuesday to lead Furman (+53) to a 23rd place finish at the season-opening Cougar Classic at the par-72 Yeamans Hall Golf Club.
"It was a tough day for the Paladins," said head coach Kelley Hester. "The wind kicked up and we didn't finish the way we would have liked."
Street, a native of Medford, Ore., tallied a pair of birdies during the final round to register her best round of the week. She birdied the par-three No. 13 on her way to a one-over back nine.
Senior Laura Wearn, in fifth place entering Tuesday's round, settled for a share of 30th at three-over after a final round 79. The Charlotte, N.C., product bogeyed the course's first three holes before suffering back-to-back double bogeys.
The University of Florida (-12) cruised to a six-stroke victory over second place Duke (-6) with Southern Cal (-1), Vanderbilt (E) and Georgia (+3) finishing out the top five in a field of 24 teams. Florida's Camilla Hedberg captured individual medalist honors with rounds of 69-66-68 to finish at 13-under par. Duke's Lindy Duncan (-9) placed second.
The Paladins return to the course September 24-26, when they take part in Golfweek's Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo.
