Furman To Tip Off 2019 At Home Versus Presbyterian

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team will tip off the 2019 portion of its schedule on Wednesday when it plays host to Presbyterian in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.

Coming off a 66-53 loss to nationally 25th-ranked South Carolina on Sunday, the Paladins (7-6), who will play their next four games at home, have gone 5-1 in Timmons Arena, the latest triumph being a 73-57 verdict administered to Florida Atlantic on Dec. 12.

The Blue Hose (2-8) last saw action on Friday, dropping an 83-59 clash at Georgia.

The PC contest will mark the next-to-last non-conference battle for Furman, which entertains North Greenville (Jan. 6) before opening Southern Conference play at home against UNC Greensboro (Jan. 10).

Furman delivered a hard-fought performance against South Carolina, trailing the Gamecocks, 56-52, with three minutes to go before a late surge put the game on ice for USC.

Leading the Paladins' effort was junior guard Le'Jzae Davidson, who registered 19 points to up her career tally to 998 and position herself to become the 24th player in program history to reach 1,000 points.

Senior forward Kaitlyn Duncan followed with 11 points and eight rebounds against South Carolina.

Davidson leads the squad in scoring (17.3 ppg), 3-point shooting (35x120, .292), and from the charity stripe (.827).

Sophomore Celena Taborn averages 11.2 ppg and tops the SoCon in field goal percentage (.656).

Wednesday's game will also pit redshirt junior guard Taylor Petty (9.0 ppg) against her former school.  Petty spent two years at PC, where she earned Big South Conference Freshman of the Year in 2015-16 before joing the Paladin program follwing the 2016-17 campaign.
