Reeves, Furman Remain In Contention After Second Round At John Hayt Collegiate Invitational

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. -- Junior Austin Reeves (71-70=141) fired a two-under 70 to remain in second place and Furman (296-297=593) continued to hold third place after two rounds at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Monday at the par-72 Sawgrass Country Club.

Reeves trails tournament leader Joe Byun (69-69=138) of the University of North Florida by three strokes entering the final 18 holes. The Greenville native and Eastside High School product played the front nine at two-under par and notched one birdie and only one bogey on the back nine to stay within three shots of the lead. Reeves’ Paladin teammate Garland Ferrell (73-72=145) is in a tie for seventh at one-over par after carding an even-par 72 on Monday. Ferrell, a senior, also recorded three birdies during the second round.

Furman’s Jack Ulrich shot a 77 on Monday while Daniel Bowden and Anthony Aloi carded rounds of 78 and 83, respectively.

North Florida (288-294=582) holds a two-stroke lead over second place Duke (294-290=584) and 11-stroke cushion over third place Furman after 36 holes. UCF, Tulsa, Georgia Southern, LSU, Alabama, TCU and Tennessee round out the top 10 in a 15-team field that includes seven teams ranked in the top 30.

Final round play in the 54-hole tournament is set for Tuesday morning. Furman will play in the final group with North Florida and Duke.
