Purvis Fires 69 To Move Into Eighth Place At Clemson Invitational

SALEM, S.C. -- Senior Scott Purvis (-6) fired a 69 for the second-consecutive round to move into eighth place Saturday to pace the Furman (-3) mens' golf team at the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 7,103 The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C.

A native of Mason, Ohio, Purvis tallied three birdies on the front, including consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6, to turn at two-under, then added birdies on No. 14 and No. 16 for a three-under in round two.  He enters Sunday's final round seven strokes behind leader Luke Schniederjans (-13) of Georgia Tech, who holds a two-round total of 69-62=131.

Junior Keller Harper (-5) notched two pairs of consecutive birdies to finish the day with an even 72.  He is tied for ninth entering the last day, while senior Connor Bruns (+3) is tied for 46th after carding a 77 with three birdies on Saturday.

Junior Stephen Reynolds (+9) recorded four birdies on the front nine, including back to back birdies on No. 6 and No. 7, to finish with a second-round 74.  He is tied for 65th entering Sunday's round, and sophomore Jack Crosby (+11), who is tied for 75th, birdied his first two holes and added three additional birdies on the back nine to card a 75 in round two. 

The top five spots in the tournament remained unchanged after Saturday's second round.  No. 8 Georgia Tech (-33) extended its lead to six strokes over 14th-ranked Georgia (-27).  Ninth-ranked Duke (-23) is third, followed by No. 17 Clemson (-20) in fourth.  Virginia (-9) continues to hold the fifth-place spot, while Connecticut (-2) moved up five spots to sixth place.  The Paladins (-1) enter Sunday's final round in seventh place.

The 54-hole tournament concludes on Sunday.  Teams will tee off of No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 9 a.m.  Furman will tee off of No. 1 starting at 9:00 a.m. and will play in a group with College of Charleston and UNCW.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via
