Spartanburg, S.C. – Sophomore Jack Crosby fired a final round 68 to claim individual medalist honors and propel the Furman men's goal team (-25) to the tournament title on Tuesday at the Wofford Invitational at the par 72, 6,684-yard Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, S.C.
Crosby, a native of Memphis, Tenn., notched six birdies during final round play and recorded an eagle at the par-5 No. 17 for the second straight day to finish the three-round tournament at 13-under par and six strokes ahead of second place Ryan Hall of South Carolina. The win marked the second for Crosby, who claimed individual medalist honors in October at the Camden Collegiate Invitational in Camden, S.C.
The Paladins shot a 10-under 278 on Tuesday to claim a 25-stroke win over second place Austin Peay (+2). Radford (+3), USC Upstate (+7), Gardner-Webb (+9) and Belmont (+9) rounded out the top five.
Senior Scott Purvis and junior Stephen Reynolds each finished with a share of fifth place after shooting 72 and 70, respectively, during the final round. Connor Bruns (+3) and Keller Harper (+3), who carded a four-under 68 on Tuesday, each earned a share of 22nd, while Matt Lehman (+2), playing as an individual, finished in 19th place.
The victory marked the first for Furman's first-year head coach Matt Davidson, who has also guided his squad to four runner-up finishes during the 2018-19 campaign. The 2002 Southern Conference Player of the Year and 2018 Furman Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Davidson was hired as head coach in June of 2018.
