Furman Leads Wofford Invitational After Two Rounds; Crosby Tied For Individual Lead

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After Monday's two rounds, the Furman (-15) men's golf team holds a nine-stroke lead at the Wofford Invitational at the par 72, 6,684 yard Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, S.C.

Sophomore Jack Crosby (-9) fired an opening round 65 and added a 70 in the day's second round to enter Tuesday's final round in a tie for the individual lead.  A native of Memphis, Tenn., Crosby played bogey-less golf with seven birdies in the morning round then eagled the par-5 No. 17 and added four birdies in the afternoon.  He is tied for the individual lead with Ryan Hall (-9) of South Carolina, who is playing as an individual and recorded rounds of 70-65=135.

Senior Scott Purvis (-4) recorded a 73 with three birdies in round one then fired a 67 with seven birdies, including four consecutive birdies from No. 15 through No. 18.  He enters the final round tied for fifth, along with junior Matt Lehman (-4), who is playing as an individual.  Lehman carded a 71 with birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 in the morning round then notched a 69 with seven birdies in round two.  

Junior Stephen Reynolds (-2) eagled the par-5 No. 17 and tallied three birdies for a 70 in round one then shot an even 72 with five birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 in the afternoon round, tying for ninth.  Senior Connor Bruns (E) notched a 73 with three birdies in the morning round then carded three consecutive birdies on No. 16 through No. 18 in the afternoon, finishing the round with four birdies and a one-under 71 to tie for 15th.

Junior Keller Harper (+7) carded a 79 with a birdie on No. 16 in the first round then rebounded with an even 72 with four birdies in the day's second round.  He enters Tuesday's final round tied for 51st. 

The Paladins (-15) lead Austin Peay State (-6) by nine strokes.  Host Wofford (-5) is in third place, followed by Gardner-Webb (E) in fourth.  Radford (+1) completes the top five.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.  Furman will tee off on holes No. 1 through No. 3 and will play in a group with Austin Peay State, Wofford, and Gardner-Webb.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via http://www.birdiefire.com.
