Harper Ties For Fifth To Lead Paladins In Day One Of 50th Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Junior Keller Harper (-1) fired a one-under 70 to lead the Furman men's golf team (+5) in the opening day of the 50th Furman Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,984-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

Harper, a native of Atlanta, Ga., birdied No. 1 then made the turn at one-over and added birdies on No. 11 and No. 18 to finish the round in a tie for fifth.  Four players are tied for the lead after carding an opening-round 69, with the afternoon wave yet to finish. 

Senior Connor Bruns (+1) posted a team-high four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6, tying for 20th with a 72, while senior Scott Purvis (+2) is tied for 26th after scoring a 73 with birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 on Friday.  Junior Stephen Reynolds (+3) carded a 74 with birdies on No. 12 and No. 17 to enter Saturday's second round in a tie for 41st, and senior Raj Ghosh (+5) is tied for 65th after tallying a 76 with a birdie on No. 12 in the first round.  

Furman has seven individuals in the field.  Sophomore Jack Crosby (E) shot an even 71 with three birdies to lead all individuals.  He is tied for 13th place, while junior Matt Lehman (+1) is tied for 20th after scoring a 72 with three birdies in the first round.  

Senior Garrison Hogan (+2) recorded an opening-round 74 with an eagle on the par-4 No. 9 and a birdie on No. 18 to tie for 26th, and freshman Owen Burden (+3) is tied for 41st after posting a 74 with a birdie on No. 18 on Friday.  

Freshman Phil Jones (+4) is tied for 52nd after notching a 75 with a birdie on No. 8, and rookie Nathan Norfleet (+5) shot a 76 with a birdie on No. 3 to tie for 6th.  Senior Jake Reilly (+7), who carded a 78 with a birdie on No. 12 is tied for 83rd.  

Virginia Tech (-3) leads the tournament after posting a 281 in the morning wave.  Coastal Carolina (-2) is one stroke back in second, followed by Davidson (-1) in third place.  The Paladins (+5) sit in tie for fourth with Yale after one round.

Furman will tee off of No. 10 on Saturday and will play in a group with Minnesota and Yale in the second round of the 54-hole tournament.  The Paladin team will begin at 12:20 p.m., followed by the individuals beginning at 1:10 p.m.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via and
