Bruns Tied For 12th To Lead Paladins At Hayt Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- Junior Connor Bruns (-1) is tied for 12th to lead the Furman men's golf team following two rounds of play Sunday at the John Hayt Invitational this weekend at the par 72, 6,966 yard Sawgrass Golf Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Bruns, a native of Duncan, S.C., fired a 68 with a team-high six birdies in Sunday's first round then added a 75 with three birdies in the afternoon to finish the day seven strokes behind leader Lorenzo Scalise (-8) of Tennessee, who is ranked 34th nationally.  Scalise carded a 68 in each round on Sunday.

Sophomore Keller Harper (+3) is tied for 37th after two rounds.  In round one, Harper scored a 73 with five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 7 and No. 8 and also on No. 17 and No. 18, then recorded a 74 with two birdies in round two.  Sophomore Scott Purvis (+7) carded a 79 with three birdies in the first round and a 72 with four birdies in the second round to tie for 57th.

Sophomore Matt Lehman (+13) tallied an 80 with birdies on No. 8 and No. 14 in the morning round and a 77 with a team-best five birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, in the afternoon.  He enters Monday's final round tied for 76th.  Senior Hunter Nichols (+21) is in 87th place after scoring an 81 with a birdie on No. 18 in the first round and an 84 with consecutive birdies on No. 14 and No. 15 in the day's second round.

Sophomore Jake Reilly, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 52nd.  He recorded a 73 with three birdies in round one and a 77 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 11 in round two.

No. 24 North Carolina (-7) holds a two-stroke lead over Jacksonville (-5) heading into Monday's final round. Liberty (-4) sits in third, while UFC (+1) and seventh-ranked Auburn (+1) are tied for fourth.  The Paladins (+10) are in 14th place.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Monday.  The Paladins will tee off of No. 10 beginning at 8:39 a.m. and will play in a group with Lipscomb and Coastal Carolina.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via and
