ATHENS, GA. -- Senior Bryce Howell (+2) tied for 25th to lead the Furman (+20) men's golf team to a tenth place finish Monday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the par 72, 6,917 yard Athens Country Club in Athens, Ga.
Howell, who eagled the par-5 No. 16 in the morning round, fired an opening round 70 with a team-high four birdies, including three-straight birdies on holes 3, 4, and 5, then added a 76 with three birdies in round two.
Junior Hunter Nichols (+4) tied for 35 after carding a 73 with three birdies in round one and scoring a 75 with two birdies in the later round. Sophomores Connor Bruns (+7) and Garrison Hogan (+7) tied for 47th. Bruns posted a 76 with two birdies in the opening round and added a 75 with a pair of birdies in round two, while Hogan posted three birdies for an opening-round 75 then scored a 76 with two birdies in the final round.
Freshman Stephen Reynolds (+12) recorded a 78 with two birdies in round one and paced the Paladins with four birdies in the day's final round, tying for 65th.
Jake Fendt (-3) of Kennesaw State won individual medalist honors after firing a 68 in round one and adding a 69 in the second round, for a two-round total of 137.
No. 43 Lipscomb (-12) won the tournament by three strokes over 30th-ranked Florida State (-9). No. 13 Oklahoma (-8) finished third, followed by 24th-ranked Arkansas (-5) in fourth and No. 44 Kennesaw State (-3) in fifth.
The Paladins will compete in the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C., March 24-26.
