Howell Ties For 23rd To Lead Paladins At Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. -- Senior Bryce Howell (+6) carded a final-round 72 to tied for 23rd and lead the Furman men's golf team Tuesday at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70, 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.   

Howell, who hails from Blythewood, S.C., paced the Paladins with five birdies in the final round, including three-straight on holes 14, 15, and 16.  Sophomore Connor Bruns (+7) was just one stroke behind Howell in a tie for 26th after carding a 73 with a birdie on No. 12 in Tuesday's round.

Junior Hunter Nichols (+13) posted a 76 with birdies on No. 10 and No. 16 to tie for 51st, and sophomore Garrison Hogan (+15) tied for 58th after shooting a 76 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 14 on Tuesday.  Freshman Keller Harper (+25) birdied No. 14 and tied for 84th.

Derek Bard (-6) of Virginia, the nation's 94th ranked player, parred the final round to take individual medalist honors with a three-day total of 69-65-70=204.

Sixteenth-ranked Clemson (-5) surged into the lead on Tuesday, beating No. 3 Virginia (-4) by one stroke.  No. 39 South Carolina (+5) finished third, followed by Augusta (+8) in fourth.  East Carolina (+17) completed the top five.  Furman (+38) tied for 11th with Akron.

The Paladins will compete at the Furman Intercollegiate March 24-26 in Greenville, S.C.
