Howell Ties For Second At Firestone Invitational

AKRON, OHIO -- Senior Bryce Howell (-7) fired a final-round 70 to tie for second and lead the Furman men's golf team in the final round of the Firestone Invitational at the par 72, 7,125 yard Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.   

Howell paced the Paladins with five birdies on Tuesday to tie with Kyle Rodes (-7) of Eastern Michigan and finish four strokes back of individual medalist Austin Squires (-11) of Cincinnati, who posted a 69-68-68=205.

Sophomore Connor Bruns (-1) tied for 17th after carding a 75 with two birdies on Tuesday, and rookie Stephen Cerbara (+10) posted a 76 with two birdies to tie for 61st.  Sophomore Garrison Hogan (+16) and redshirt-freshman Jake Reilly (+16) tied for 77th.  Hogan shot a 74 with two birdies in the final round, while Reilly added a 77 with two birdies.

Cincinnati (-14) won the tournament by three strokes over Illinois State (-11).  Akron (-8) was third, and Dayton (-4) and Eastern Michigan (-2) rounded out the top five.  The Paladins (+14) tied for tenth with USC Aiken.

The Paladins will compete at the Tarheel Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C., October 8-9.
