Hopke Tied For Fifth At SoCon Championship After Monday's Second Round

PINEHURST, N.C. – Junior Wehman Hopke (-2) fired a 69 to tie for fifth place Monday after two rounds of play at the 2015 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,091 yard Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, N.C.  

Hopke birdied three holes on the front and one on the back to finish tied with UNCG's Jake McGlone, six strokes back of Western Carolina's J.T. Poston (-8), the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, who led his fifth-straight round in the SoCon tournament, as he was the wire-to-wire winner in 2014.

Paladin junior Preston Cole (-1) is tied for seventh entering the final round of play after carding a 70 on Monday with four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 15 and No. 16, while senior Michael Borton (+11) tallied a team-high six birdies Monday to score a 74 in the second round, placing 32nd.  Sophomore Bryce Howell (+13) and freshman Adam Garrett (+13) are tied for 34th heading into Tuesday's final round.

ETSU (-1) leads UNCG (+5) by six strokes entering the final round of play.  Chattanooga (+8) is third, while Western Carolina (+10) and Wofford (+12) round out the top five.  Seeking their first title since 2010, the Paladins are in seventh (+16) after Monday's round.

The final round of the tournament will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. with the Paladins scheduled to tee off of No. 10 beginning at 8:20 a.m.  The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA regional, while the individual medalist will also earn an automatic regional qualification.
