PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- Sophomore Bryce Howell carded a 74 to lead the Furman men's golf team Saturday in the second day of the The Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Howell (+10) led the Paladins with three birdies in the round to finish the day tied for 45th place. #28 Beau Hossler (-2) leads the field after firing a 66 on Saturday for a two-day total of 76-66=142.
Junior Wehman Hopke (+11) carded a 75 on Saturday after birdieing No. 14 to tie for 52nd place heading into the final round of competition, while junior Preston Cole (+12) notched back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and No. 7 to score a 76 on Saturday and move into a tie for 55th place. Redshirt freshman Alex Taylor (+20) is tied for 80th after scoring an 81 in the second round, while senior Michael Borton (+22) recorded birdies on No. 8 and No. 14 to card a 77 on Saturday and will enter the final round tied for 83rd place.
#8 Texas (+5) surged into the lead after shooting a 280 on Saturday, eight strokes better than #29 North Florida (+8), who carded a 288 in the second round. #16 UCLA (+19), #26 Oklahoma State (+21), and #18 Alabama (+26) complete the top five. Following Saturday's found, the Paladins (+49) moved into 13th place.
