Daniel Island, S.C. – Seniors Matt Brown and Anthony Aloi posted rounds of 75 and 76, respectively, to lead Furman during the second round of the 2013 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship Monday at the par-72 Ralston Creek Course.
Brown, a native of Brookeville, Md., recorded two birdies on the day and played the front nine at even par to move into a share of 15th place after 36 holes. Aloi, who struggled to an opening round 82, rebounded to shoot four-over on Monday while freshman Wehman Hopke added a five-over 77.
Chattanooga (+12), with a two-over 290 on Monday, climbed into the lead. Davidson (+15), College of Charleston (+24), Appalachian State (+27) and Elon (+31) rounded out the top-five in the 11-team field. The Paladins (+53) shot a 309 in second round play to slip to 10th place.
The Mocs' Steven Fox (-1) followed a first round 72 with a one-under 71 on Monday to grab a two-stroke lead over Davidson's Todd Eckstein (+1) and College of Charleston's Josh Lorenzetti (+1) in the individual standings.
Final round play in the 54-hole tournament is set to get underway on Tuesday morning. The winner of the SoCon Championship will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA regionals.
