Georgetown, S.C. – Senior J.B. Murphy posted his second straight two-over par 73 to pace the Furman men's golf team to a 10th place finish in the General Hackler Championship at the par-71, 7,189-yard DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, S.C., on Monday.
Murphy (+10) birdied three holes during the final round, including two on the back nine, to shoot even-par over the final nine holes and earn a share of 21st place. Junior Matt Brown (+11) used a 76 on Monday to finish in 28th place while senior Matt Broome (+14) slipped to a 40th place finish after an eight-over 79.
The Paladins (+54) held at least a share of seventh place for much of the final round, but Furman fell to a 10th place finish with a 20-over 304 on Monday after suffering three double bogeys and a triple bogey over the final three holes of play. North Florida's (+20) final round 290 was enough to hold off second place East Carolina (+22) by two strokes with Arkansas (+26), New Mexico (+27) and Virginia (+34) rounding out the top five in the 15-team field that included seven of the top 50 teams in the nation.
The Ospreys' Sean Dale (-1) cruised to individual medalist honors with a two-over 73 in the final round.
The Paladins return to the Furman University Golf Club to host the 43rd Annual Furman Intercollegiate March 16-18.
