The Paladins will host Charleston in an October 24, contest televised live on Fox Soccer Channel from Furman's Stone Soccer Stadium at 8 p.m. The match will mark the Paladins' first appearance on the cable network.
"We are excited about having the opportunity to showcase our program and our campus and facilities to a world wide audience," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "Fox Soccer Channel is a great supporter of college soccer and we are proud to have them coming to Furman."
Furman, which returns seven starters for the 2008 campaign, is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history posting a 19-4-0 record and top 25 national ranking in 2007. The Paladins claimed the Southern Conference regular season and tournament crowns before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Paladins look to take their game to a higher level by playing their first exhibition match of the 2008 season against the 2007 NCAA National Champion Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Winston Salem, NC. Furman will open its season hosting Bowling Green and 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Washington September 12 and 14, in the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational. The following weekend the Paladins travel to the Nike/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C., where they will take on the 13th-ranked Brown Bears and NCAA Tournament finalist Ohio State.
Furman welcomes South Carolina to Greenville for a 7 p.m. match on September 24 and then host SoCon rival UNC Greensboro at Stone Stadium on October 4, at 7 p.m.
"This will certainly be a challenging schedule this season with several teams who reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago," Allison said. "It will give us a chance to measure ourselves on a national level and give our fans a chance to see some great soccer at Stone Stadium."
