Palazzo Named South Region Honorable Mention

Greenville, S.C. - Furman middle blocker Nicole Palazzo was named 2006 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-South Region Honorable Mention, it was announced on Wednesday.
The sophomore from Grayson, Ga. was named the 2006 Southern Conference Player of the Year, and was a First-Team All-SoCon selection.
Palazzo led the league with a .379 hitting percentage and a 1.47 blocks average. She tied a Southern Conference record on October 28 when she tallied 17 total blocks against College of Charleston. The 17 total blocks ranks as the seventh-highest total in NCAA history, and is the second-highest total since the NCAA changed format to rally scoring in 2001. She was twice named the Southern Conference Player of the Week (October 2 and October 30), and was named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for both September and October.
Palazzo also ranked 25th in the country in hitting percentage at .379 and 30th in the NCAA in blocks with a 1.47 blocks per game average. She also finished the season ranked fifth in the nation with 37 solo blocks.
