SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman freshman Chandler Ambrester has been honored as the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance in matches October 19-25, the league office announced Monday.
The outside hitter from Pine Mountain, Ga., averaged 3.64 kills and 1.36 digs in the Paladins' three victories last week. She posted a .345 hitting percentage, four blocks and three service aces in 11 sets. In Furman's 3-1 win at Presbyterian, Ambrester hit .519 with 14 kills. Her 14 kills in the Paladins' 3-1 win against Samford tied the match high, and she recorded 12 kills in Furman's 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga .
The Paladins are currently on an 11-match win streak, the longest in school history, and are undefeated in conference play. Ambrester and Furman travel to Statesboro, Ga., to face Georgia Southern Friday night then visit Davidson on Saturday.
Also nominated this week were College of Charleston's Ginny Phillips, The Citadel's Tatum Jestila, Davidson's Sarabeth Peele, Elon's Caroline Lemke, Georgia Southern's Kate Van Dyke, Samford's Sheriden Stangohr, Chattanooga's Laura Brock and Wofford's Catelyn Amende.
