Greenville, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced today that Furman's Courtney Stewardson has been named the Molten Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 16.

Stewardson, a junior setter from Apple Valley, Minn., delivered an all-around performance to help lead the Paladins to a 3-0 record last week and to improve their conference record to 8-2. Last Tuesday in just two games played she tallied 28 assists, four digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Wofford. On Saturday she recorded 35 assists, five kills and four service aces in Furman's 3-0 victory against Chattanooga. To wrap up the week, Stewardson played in two games on Sunday against Western Carolina and notched 31 assists, four digs and two blocks in the Paladins 3-0 victory.

On the week, Stewardson tallied 94 assists, seven kills, five service aces, 16 digs and eight blocks. She ranks second in the league in assists average with 12.22. Stewardson's player of the week nomination marks the third time this season that a Furman player has won the award. Chibuzo Aguocha was named player of the week on August 28, and Nicole Palazzo earned the honor on October 2. Furman joins College of Charleston as the only schools in the league with three player of the week citations.

Furman returns to action this weekend as the Paladins travel to face Georgia Southern on Friday night.
