Lady Paladins To Open 2005 Volleyball Season on Friday

GREENVILLE, South Carolina - Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team is making its final preparations before opening the 2005 season on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Florida Atlantic Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.

Head coach Michelle Young returns five of six starters from a Lady Paladin team that went 15-16 overall and 8-8 in the Southern Conference a year ago. Furman was picked to finish fourth in the Southern Conference in the 2005 preseason coaches poll, while junior Whitney Purser was tabbed as a preseason all conference pick.

Furman opens the 2005 campaign with a 5 p.m. match on Friday against Fairfield State. The Lady Paladins will face the host Florida Atlantic Owls Saturday in another 5 p.m. match.

The Lady Paladins do not open their home season until Sept. 23, when Furman plays host to SoCon powerhouse the College of Charleston in a 7 p.m. match at Alley Gym, the new home of the Lady Paladin volleyball team.
