GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman Paladins volleyball coach Michelle Young has announced the signing of four players to national letters of intent.
Inking with Furman are Chandler Ambrester, a 6-foot outside hitter from Pine Mountain, Ga.; Christina Curry, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker from Kingwood, Texas; Natalie Braun, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Lincoln, Neb.; and 6-foot middle blocker Caroline Adams from Plano, Texas.
Ambrester was a two-time all-area and all-state selection at Harris County High School, where she twice captured team MVP accolades. A three-time Columbus All Bi-City honoree, she was also named to the 2008 Georgia Senior All-Stars Team.
"Chandler is a dynamic outside hitter who could develop into one of the top attackers in the Southern Conference," said Young.
Curry starred on three district championship teams at Kingwood High School, earning all-district honors all three years, as well as academic all-district.
Said Young on Curry, "We are excited to have Christina as part of our 2009 class. She brings a high level of athleticism along with the size necessary to compete at a very high level."
Braun played on three state championship teams during her tenure at Pius X High School. Twice named all-city, in 2008 she was selected Super-State and was also named to the all-state tournament squad, as well as academic all-state.
"Natalie if a great all-around player who has a wealth of experience and a knack for winning," said Young. "We anticipate her having an early impact this fall."
Adams twice garnered all-district and all-state honors at Prestonwood Christian Academy, helping her squad to a pair of state quarterfinal appearances.
"Caroline is an outstanding player who will help us both at middle and right side," commented Young. "We are very excited to have her level of intensity. She is one of the most competitive players I have had the opportunity to sign."
Furman went 21-14 in 2008 and captured the Southern Conference Tournament championship and league's NCAA Tournament bid.
