Three Paladins recorded ten kills, and Furman recorded 51 digs as Furman defeated Western Carolina 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in both teams' regular season finale.
Furman has now won ten of its last 11 matches, with all ten wins coming by a 3-0 margin. Also, the win secures the number two seed for Furman at the Southern Conference Volleyball Championship next week in Boone, N.C.
Nicole Palazzo, Ally Hock, and Kerry Wooten each recorded ten kills for the Paladins, who hit at a .311 clip for the match. Hock led the way with just one error in her 14 total attempts (.643), while Wooten was close behind with one error in 15 attempts (.600).
Kim Tonkin led the defensive effort for Furman with 17 digs, while Chibuzo Aguocha added 11 defensive saves. Palazzo and Aguocha each recorded five total blocks, with each contributing one solo block. Courtney Stewardson recorded 31 set assists in just two games played for the Paladins.
Meredith Harmon recorded nine kills and four total blocks (one solo) to lead Western Carolina. Liz Rondone tallied 21 digs, and Katie Hennessey added 26 set assists.
With the win, Furman improves to 19-10 on the season, 15-3 in the Southern Conference. Western Carolina falls to 8-27 overall, 4-14 in conference action. Furman returns to action on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Volleyball Championships. The Paladins will face either Elon or The Citadel at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
