Furman Volleyball Blanks Georgia Southern 3-0

Statesboro, Ga. - The Furman volleyball team hit .314 as a team and outblocked Georgia Southern 10-3 en route to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-28, 30-28) victory at Hanner Fieldhouse on Friday night. With the win, Furman notches its fourth straight 3-0 victory, with all four coming against Southern Conference opponents.
Nicole Palazzo led the Furman attack with 16 kills against just two hitting errors in 29 total attempts (.483). The reigning Southern Conference Player of the Month also added seven total blocks to key the Paladin defensive effort.
Kerry Wooten and Chibuzo Aguocha also reached double-figures in kills with 13 and 11, respectively. Courtney Stewardson, Southern Conference Player of the Week for October 16, contributed 46 set assists and added two service aces.
Whitney Purser and Aguocha led Furman with nine digs apiece, and five Paladins recorded two or more total blocks.
Gorana Bacic led Georgia Southern with 11 kills on the night. Staci Anderson recorded a game-high 14 defensive saves for the Eagles.
With the win, Furman improves to 13-9 on the season, 9-2 in the Southern Conference. Georgia Southern falls to 8-10 on the season, 2-8 in conference action. Furman returns to action next Friday and Saturday as the Paladins play host to The Citadel and College of Charleston.
