Furman Volleyball Falls to Charleston 3-1

Charleston, S.C. - Deanna Patrick and Annie Uthe each tallied 12 kills, and Marie Dobrenz added 29 digs as College of Charleston defeated Furman 3-1 at John Kresse Arena on Saturday afternoon. Chibuzo Aguocha recorded a game-high 17 kills, and in the process became just the 13th player in Furman history to top the 1,000 kill mark.
Emily Sawin added 10 kills for the Cougars, and Tiffany Blum paced Charleston with six total blocks (one solo).
Ally Hock and Nicole Palazzo also reached double-figures in kills for the Paladins with 11 and 10, respectively. Palazzo also added a game-high nine total blocks (one solo). Courtney Stewardson tied for game-high honors in set assists with 44 on the day. Stephanie Smith led Furman with 24 defensive saves.
With the win, College of Charleston improves to 11-5 overall, 5-0 in the Southern Conference. Furman falls to 8-8 on the season, and suffers its first conference defeat to push its record to 4-1 in conference action.
Furman returns to action next weekend as the Paladins travel to face Davidson on Friday night and Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon.
