Bill Egbert is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Paladin volleyball team.
In 2007, he helped lead the Paladins to a 3rd-place finish in the Southern Conference, and helped coach Chibuzo Aguocha, Nicole Palazzo, Courtney Stewardson, and Alison West to All-SoCon honors.
"I am very excited to have Bill join our program," said Furman head coach Michelle Young upon hiring Egbert. "He is a young up-and-coming coach with a ton of experience. I know that he will have a tremendous impact here at Furman."
Egbert, a 2007 graduate of the University of Nebraska in Russian Studies, has spent the last five years serving as a student manager for the 2006 National Champion Nebraska women's volleyball team. During his time with the Huskers, Egbert helped the team to four Big 12 Conference Championships, five NCAA Tournament appearances and two final four appearances in addition to the national title. He is highly experienced in player simulation for game preparation and specializes in middle blocker and setter training. Egbert brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge to the Furman program.
In addition to his duties at the University of Nebraska, Egbert served as the head coach of the Nebraska Juniors Club Volleyball team from 2002-2006. Here he was responsible for developing and overseeing practices to maximize both team and individual performance. Egbert scouted opponents and developed game plans, leading three of his four teams to the Junior National Tournament during his four years as head coach. His 16-and-under team finished 9th in the National Club Division last year.
"I am excited to be part of a dynamic program with a head coach that is devoted to helping the girls accomplish any goals they have set for themselves, whether they are personal or team oriented," commented Egbert.
A native of Papillion, Neb., Egbert joins Young in Furman's quest for a Southern Conference title. The Paladins return four starters. Furman posted a record of 20-9 overall, 13-5 in the league last season.
