Greenville, S.C. – Furman volleyball opens the home portion of the 2018 schedule on Thursday, welcoming Appalachian State and Winthrop to Alley Gym for a pair of non-conference matches. The Paladins (4-5) are set to take on the Mountaineers on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., before facing the Eagles on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Both matches are set to be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network.
The Paladins are coming off a 3-0 weekend and UNF Invitational title. Hunter Thompson was named tournament MVP, while Meg DeMaar nabbed her third all-tournament honors of the season. Senior Jordan McNeill leads the Paladins with 73 kills on the year, while Nicole Mack is second with 70. Meg DeMaar leads with 168 digs, while Jamila Johnson has 98 and freshman Neci Harris has totaled a team-high 25 blocks.
Appalachian State (6-4) is coming off a loss at ETSU on Tuesday night. Emma Longley led the way with a team-high 11 kills, while Victoria Wilform tallied a career-high eight. Emma Reilly currently leads the Sun Belt in service aces per set (0.59) and total aces (20). Becky Porter was named Sun Belt Setter of the Week for the second straight week, after averaging 10.67 assists per set.
Winthrop (2-7) comes to Furman after a 2-1 weekend at the Spartan-Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. The Eagles were supposed to host The Citadel in a midweek match on Tuesday, but the match was cancelled due to The Citadel's mandatory evacuation away from Hurricane Florence.
