Johnson City, Tenn. – Behind 14 kills from Rylee Milhorn, ETSU downed the Paladins 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Johnson City, Tenn. The loss, Furman's first in SoCon play, moves the Paladins to 16-8 on the year (10-1 SoCon), while the win moves the Bucs to 13-10 and 9-3 in SoCon play.
Furman was led by Christen Sikora with nine kills, while Meg DeMaar turned in a team-high 14 digs. Milhorn led the match with 14 kills for the Bucs, while libero Marija Popovic tallied a game-high 28 digs.
After ETSU took a 13-3 lead early in the first, the Paladins used an 11-3 run to cut the lead to 16-14. The Bucs pushed the lead back to seven, however, at 21-14, before Furman cut it to four at 21-17 and 22-18. ETSU finished the set with three-straight blocks to take set one, 25-18, for a 1-0 match lead.
The teams traded points in the second until ETSU used a 5-0 run to push the lead to 14-5. The Paladins cut the lead to three at 17-14, but the Bucs used seven-straight points to take a 24-14 lead and eventually taking set two, 25-16. ETSU used an 8-2 run in set three to open a lead the Paladins could not overcome, taking set three, 25-20, for a 3-0 match win.
Furman is back in action on Wednesday, hosting The Citadel in Alley Gym for a 7:00 p.m. midweek matchup.
