Spartanburg, S.C. – Behind 19 kills from Jamila Johnson and eight blocks from Courtney Hoffman, Furman overcame a 1-0 match deficit to defeat Wofford, 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19) on opening night of Wofford's Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Paladins hold the distinction of the first-ever win inside the building.
Johnson put down a match-high 19 kills and hit .342, while Courtney Hoffman added 10 hills, a .444 hitting percentage and eight blocks. Christen Sikora added 11 kills for the Paladins, while Hunter Thompson dished out 46 assists. The Paladins hit .239 in the match, while holding the Terriers to a .148 hitting percentage.
The teams traded points early in the first set, until Wofford used a 7-1 run to take a 16-8 lead. The Paladins would get no closer than seven, as the Terriers took the first set, 25-17, for a 1-0 match lead. Furman pounced on Wofford in the second set, taking a quick 9-3 lead, before the Terriers rallied to cut the lead to two at 16-14. The teams continued to trade points until Furman ended the set on a 4-0 run to take set two, 25-18, and tie the match at one.
Furman and Wofford traded points early in the third set, before the Paladins used a 6-1 run to take an 18-13 advantage, forcing a Wofford timeout. The Terriers cut the lead to six at 20-14, but the Paladins closed the set on a 5-0 run to take set three, 25-16, for a 2-1 match lead.

The Paladins pushed the lead to 14-4, but the Terriers clawed back to cut the lead to four at 15-9, forcing Furman to call its final timeout of the fourth set. Wofford tied the set at 19, but the Paladins closed out the set on a 6-0 run to take it, 25-19, for a 3-1 match win.
Wofford was led by Bijonae Jones with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Catie Cronister added 1- kills of her own.
The Paladins return to action on September 29, taking on ETSU in Alley Gym.
