GREENVILLE, S.C. – Taina Joseph put down 11 kills and hit .409, but it wasn't enough, as Chattanooga swept Furman on Friday night in Alley Gym. The win moves the Mocs to 14-10 on the year and 7-4 in SoCon play, while the loss drops the Paladins to 9-14 on the year and 5-6 in SoCon play.
Joseph led the Paladins with 11 kills, while Annie Bierman put down nine kills and added 13 digs. Furman totaled five blocks on the night, and held the Mocs to 39 kills.
Chattanooga used a 9-1 run to open up a 10-4 lead early in the first set, and the Paladins couldn't recover, dropping the first set 25-16, and giving the Mocs a 1-0 match lead. The teams traded points early in the second set, until Chattanooga took a 21-17 lead. Furman cut the lead to three at 22-19, but the Mocs used three-straight kills to take set two, 25-19, for a 2-0 match lead.
Chattanooga again opened up a 10-4 lead in the third set, then pushed the lead to 12-5. Furman then used an 8-1 run to tie the set at 13, before the teams traded points and Furman pushed the lead to 20-18. Chattanooga rattled off three-straight points to take a 21-20 lead, before using a 3-1 run to take the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.
Furman is back in action after a quick turnaround, traveling to Cullowhee, N.C., for a 12:00 p.m. matchup.
