Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins At Willie Jewell's Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Furman volleyball team picked up two wins Friday at the Willie Jewell's Invitational, held on the campus of Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C.  The Paladins defeated Mercer, 3-1, in the morning match, then returned to beat Canisius, 3-0, in the afternoon.

Statistics for the matches were incomplete due to technical difficulties at the tournament site.  Complete statistics will be posted on-line at www.furmanpaladins.com as they come available after video review.

"We improved our play from the first match to the afternoon match," said Paladin head coach Michelle Young following the victories.  "We were able to get our middles going, and we handled the ball much better.  I was very happy with our performance at the service line."

Furman (5-1) returns to action Saturday when the Paladins take on USC Upstate at 11 a.m.  The tournament will conclude on Saturday night, when Furman will face host Charleston Southern at 7 p.m.
