SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Natalie Braun recorded her eleventh double-double of the season as the Furman volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) win at Wofford Wednesday night in Benjamin Johnson Arena in Spartanburg, S.C. Braun had a team-high 12 kills and 13 assists for the Paladins.
Furman took a quick 4-1 lead in the first set, but the Terriers answered with a 6-4 run to cut the margin to one point at 8-7. The Paladins then reeled off five-straight points to gain control of the match and push the advantage to 13-7. After building a 20-16 lead, Furman scored on four-straight points, putting the set out of reach and eventually taking a 25-18 victory.
The teams battled through a close set two. With the Paladins leading 13-12, Furman went on a 10-3 run to break open the set and take a 23-15 lead. A kill from Rachel Woodlee kept the Terriers in the set before a kill from Braun, coupled with a kill by sophomore Christina Dorismond, gave the Paladins a 25-16 set win and a 2-0 lead at the break.
The third set began as a repeat of set two, with the teams fighting through seven ties. With the score knotted at eight-apiece, the Paladins put together an 8-0 run to take a 16-8 lead. The Paladins controlled the set at 24-14 when Wofford scored five-straight points to cut the deficit to 24-19, but a final kill from senior Alexis Shaffer sealed the match for the Paladins.
"I was very pleased with Braun's play tonight," said Furman head coach Michelle Young following the match. "Our middles put up some good numbers, and our team in general had a strong night."
Wofford (13-6, 2-10 SoCon) was led by Woodlee, who recorded nine kills. Bekah Dorsey added 17 assists, and Reagan Styles had 13 digs for the Terriers.
Furman (17-7, 10-2 SoCon) will play at the Citadel on Friday at 6 p.m.
