Volleyball Drops Two Matches In First Day Of Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Sophomore Chandler Ambrester hit .407 with 13 kills to lead the Furman volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 26-24) loss at South Carolina in the Gamecock Invitational on Friday night. 

Junior Kelly Kirby paced the Paladins with 22 assists and added 12 digs, while freshman Elle Ross tallied a team-high 17 digs for the match.  Sophomore Natalie Braun recorded 11 kills, 11 digs, and two service aces in the effort.

Earlier in the day, Lipscomb defeated Furman 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) to open the tournament.  Braun led the Paladins with nine kills, while freshman Sarah McCarthy and Kirby each posted 13 assists.  Kirby paced the team with 13 digs.

Furman (2-6) will face South Carolina State Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final round of the Gamecock Invitational.
