Southern Announces Hiring of Meaghan Colville
Sept. 6, 2005
GREENVILLE, South Carolina - Furman University women's tennis coach Debbie Southern announced on Tuesday the hiring of Meaghan Colville as assistant coach for the Lady Paladin tennis squad.
Colville is a 2005 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in teacher education and was a three-time letterwinner on the Buckeye tennis team. In addition, Colville earned Academic All Big Ten for two straight years, and was a 2000 All-America Championships participant.
A product of her hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Colville played as a freshman for Western Michigan University before transferring to OSU. In her collegiate career, she compiled 95 doubles victories, more than 40 singles wins, and was regionally ranked in the top 10 in doubles twice.
Colville has also spent a great deal of time as a tennis instructor, working as varsity and junior varisty coach at Olentange High School in Lewis Center, Ohio, and instructing at the Ontario Racquet Club and the Swim and Racquet Club of Columbus, Ohio.
"I am excited to have Meaghan join the Furman women's tennis program," said Southern at the time of the announcement. "She was an outstanding player at Ohio State and is eager to enter the coaching profession."
Colville replaces former assistant Wesley Griffin, who spent three years on the Lady Paladin staff, helping lead Furman to three of the team's seven consecutive Southern Conference regular season titles.
