Hagood Named Academic All-District III

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -

Furman senior Mary Neill Hagood, the reigning Southern Conference women's tennis Player of the Year and Furman's 2005 Student Athlete Achievement Award winner, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All District III First Team for the second year in a row, and will be on the national ballot for Academic All-American, it was announced today.

 

As a women's tennis player, Hagood was named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Director's of America) at-large spring team, which means she is competing for Academic All-America honors against student-athletes in tennis, golf, rifle, swimming, gymnastics, and field hockey.

 

Hagood has compiled a 3.78 grade point averaging psychology, while moving into second place all-time at Furman in singles victories and overall wins.  In addition she is a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year, an inductee into Furman's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and is a volunteer with Meals on Wheels the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, and the Special Olympics.

 

The announcement of the 2005 Academic All-America at-large team will be made on Thursday, June 16, 2005.
