May 16, 2007

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Southern Conference recently announced that Furman junior Lauren Osborne was named Co-Women's Tennis Player of the Month in April after an outstanding performance in both singles and doubles. Chattanooga's Anastasia Zhukova shared the honor.

Osborne posted an undefeated 6-0 record at number two singles for the Lady Paladins to increase her winning streak to 11 straight singles matches. The native of Dallas, Texas, posted back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 victories in the Southern Conference Tournament over opponents from Appalachian State and UNC Greensboro. Osborne followed up those wins with a three-set match-clinching victory over Charleston's Link Leskosky to give Furman its fourth consecutive SoCon Tournament crown. She was named the league's tournament MVP with her undefeated record in the postseason. Osborne also went 5-0 in doubles action with partner Jacqueline Eckert. The duo cruised to two victories in the conference tournament.

Furman ended its season with a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Georgia Tech in the NCAA Tournament last weekend. It was the Lady Paladins fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
