Hagood Named SoCon TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina - The Southern Conference today named Furman tennis player Mary Neill Hagood as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 27.

Hagood, a senior from Charleston, SC, led the Paladins to their second consecutive Southern Conference Womenís Tennis tournament title last week. In the semi-finals of the tournament on April 23, Hagood defeated East Tennessee State's Sandi Knight, 6-1, 6-1. The other two matches she played in were halted, as Furman had reached four team points before her matches were completed.

In doubles action, Hagood and Caroline Bentley won all three of their matches. For the season, Hagood went undeafted in league play at the number one singles positon, earning Southern Conference Player of the Year honors.

In the classroom, Hagood carries a 3.78 GPA while majoring in psychology.
