Laura Gioia Earns Yet Another SoCon Honor

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Southern Conference recently named Furman's Laura Gioia the February Women's Tennis Player of the Month. Gioia was also recognized as SoCon Player of the Week and TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week for her recent performance.

Gioia, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., was a perfect 5-0 at number one singles during the month of February. She picked up wins over top competition including Alabama, Iowa, Clemson, Dartmouth and Southern Methodist. Gioia posted her first win of the season over a ranked opponent with her defeat of Clemson's No. 72 Carol Salge. Gioia also paired with teammate Natasa Manojlovic to earn a 3-2 record at number one doubles last month.

The Lady Paladins have won their last two matches and will face Winthrop this afternoon before traveling to No. 18 Wake Forest on Saturday at noon.
