Women's Tennis Adds Another to an Already Impressive Recruiting Class
Feb. 15, 2007
Greenville, S.C. - The Furman women's tennis recruiting class, which was recently ranked 10th in the Tennis Recruiting Network's Winter Rankings, got even stronger with the commitment of Emily Barnett to head coach Debbie Southern's squad. Barnett comes to Furman by way of Shelbyville, Ky., where she attends Sacred Heart Academy.
A multi-sport athlete during much of her younger years, Barnett turned solely to tennis when she reached high school. As a freshman, she was a region doubles champion, a state doubles finalist and earned the team MVP award. That same year, Barnett was also a Southern Indoor Open semi-finalist in girls 16s.
In 2006, Barnett was the region singles champion as well as a state semi-finalist. In girls 18s, she was a Kentucky Joe Creason Qualifier singles semi-finalist and doubles finalist. Barnett has also helped lead Sacred Heart Academy to region championships in each of her years. She earned a 2006 USTA Southern Singles final ranking of 39 and a Southern Doubles ranking of 18.
Barnett joins Monica Arguello (Lakeland, Fla.) and Jennifer Betts (Newnan, Ga.) as the Furman women's tennis recruiting class of 2007.
