GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will play a double-header Tuesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. The Paladins will face UNC Asheville at 3 p.m. and Presbyterian at 7 p.m.
Furman and UNC Asheville will meet for the fifth time in the history of the program. The teams last met in 1990, when Furman picked up an 8-1 victory. The Bulldogs will be playing in their season opener. UNC Asheville recorded a 12-9 overall record and 3-5 Big South mark last season.
The match against Presbyterian will be the 20th meeting between the two schools. The Paladins won last season's meeting, 7-0, to take a 17-2 lead in the series. The Blue Hose are opening the 2010 season Monday afternoon at USC Upstate. Presbyterian posted a 2-17 record last season, with wins over Kennesaw State and Francis Marion.
Furman (1-3) notched its first win of the season Saturday, defeating #57 Georgia State 4-3. The Paladins were down 3-1, but picked up three straight singles wins to end the match and seal the victory.
