Women's Tennis Recruiting Class Ranked 10th in Winter Rankings
Feb. 6, 2007
Greenville, S.C. - The Furman women's tennis recruiting class of 2007 was recently ranked 10th according to The Tennis Recruiting Network's Winter Rankings of the Top 25 Women's Recruiting Classes. Furman was the only Southern Conference school in the top 25 and was ranked ahead of numerous Atlantic Coast Conference (Clemson, Florida State, Wake Forest, Miami and Georgia Tech) and Big Ten (Northwestern and Michigan State) schools that landed on the list.
A panel of junior tennis experts, including journalists, tournament directors, referees and ranking chairmen, from across the country voted to determine the top classes. All commitments through January 15, 2007 were included.
The Lady Paladins received two commitments before the deadline in Monica Arguello and Jennifer Betts. Arguello (Lakeland, Fla.) is a five-star recruit according to www.tennisrecruiting.net, ranking 20th nationally and eighth in the Southeast among all 2007 recruits. She was the overall class 3-A singles state champion last year. Betts (Newnan, Ga.) is a two-time Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) AA Singles State Champion. This four-star recruit helped lead Newnan High School to a team state title in 2005.
The University of Southern California had the top-ranked recruiting class with Duke University a close second. The Tennis Recruiting Network will put out an updated Spring Recruiting Poll shortly after spring signing day.
