Lady Paladins Cruise Past Elon 4-0

Charleston, SC - After picking up a bye in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament the Furman women's tennis team downed Elon 4-0 Friday morning in Charleston, SC. Furman, the No.1 seed, advances to the semi-finals and will take on the winner of the East Tennessee State/UNC Greensboro match on Saturday. With the win the Lady Paladins improve to 20-3 while Elon finishes their 2005 season 8-12.

Furman jumped out on top early picking up the doubles point with two doubles victories. At No.1 Caroline Bentley and Mary Neill Hagood downed Kelly Fleck and Evin Prelec 8-2 and in flight three Lisa Bornt-Davis teamed with Shannon Moore for an 8-0 victory over Alli Benton and Diana Pulupa.

Furman then took the first three singles matches to seal the victory and move on to the next round. At No.2 Caroline Bentley ousted Kelly Fleck 6-2, 6-0 while at No.5 Lauren Osborne defeated Molly Cade 6-0, 6-2. In flight six action Bonnie Baird eased by Diana Pulupa 6-0, 6-0 for the third and final win.

The Furman women return to action Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Earle Tennis Center on The Citadel's campus in Charleston, SC.
