#75 Lady Paladins Edge #61 Davidson 4-3

Greenville, SC - The 75th ranked Furman women's tennis team used four singles victories to capture a 4-3 victory over the 61st ranked Davidson Wildcats Saturday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. With the win Furman improves to 18-3 on the year, 9-0 in the Southern Conference and locks up the No.1 seed for the Southern Conference Tournament in Charleston, SC next weekend. The loss drops the Wildcats to 17-5, 7-2 in conference play.
Davidson took the early 1-0 lead capturing two of the three doubles matches. The Lady Paladins quickly evened the score at one apiece when Caroline Bentley won her match at No.2 6-1, 6-4 over Meggie Patterson. Davidson responded with a win at No.3 as Kelsey Linville downed Shannon Moore 6-2, 6-0. Furman then jumped out to a 3-2 lead when Mary Neill Hagood downed Kelly Fillnow at No.1 6-2, 7-5(4) and Lauren Osborne defeated Kim Whelan 6-3, 6-4 in flight six. Davidson tied the score at 3-3 after Meghan Fillnow won her match over Jacqueline Eckert 6-1, 7-6(3) in the No.4 slot. In the final match Furman's Marti Morris bounced back after a first set loss to down Kate Levitt 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-2 in flight five, sealing the victory for the Paladins and moving Furman's regular season conference win streak to sixty matches.
The Lady Paladins travel to Boone, NC tomorrow for their final regular season match against Appalachian State. Match time is set for 2:30.
