#70 Furman Women Cruise Past Western Carolina 7-0

Greenville, SC - The 70th ranked Furman women's tennis team won their twelfth consecutive match with a 7-0 shut out over Western Carolina Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. With the win the Lady Paladins improve to 15-3, 6-0 in the Southern Conference, with the Catamounts falling to 4-12, 0-7 in conference play.

The Lady Paladins quickly took a 1-0 lead after winning the first two doubles matches and taking a victory in the third by default. Furman then took a 2-0 lead going into singles play picking up a default win in the No.6 slot. Furman went on to win the other five singles matches to give the Lady Paladins their seventh shut out on the year. At No.1 Mary Neill Hagood downed Trish Hanson 6-1, 6-0 while Caroline Bentley defeated Katherin Ptak at No.2. In the flight three match Lauren Osborne ousted Kristin Cotton 6-1, 6-0. Playing at No.4 Bonnie Baird picked up a win over Ashley Harris and in flight five Natasa Manojlovic eased by Susanna Sjokvist both by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Paladins return to action on Saturday for a 10 AM match up against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, GA.
