Furman Women Down East Tennessee State 5-2

Johnson City, TN - The # 70 Furman women's tennis team won a 5-2 decision over the Buccaneers on a sunny Tuesday afternoon on the ETSU tennis courts. ETSU's record now stands at 16-6 overall, 6-2 in the SoCon, while the Furman's record improves to 14-3, 5-0 and gives the Lady Paladins fifty-six consecutive regular season conference wins. Furman fell behind early after dropping two of the three doubles matches giving East Tennessee State the 1-0 edge. Furman bounced back in singles play capturing the first five matches to seal the victory for the Lady Paladins. At No.1 Mary Neill Hagood eased by Sandie Knight 6-2, 6-1 while at No.2 Caroline Bentley battled for a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Masha Illina. In flight three Shannon Moore downed Sylwia Ziolkowska 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Marti Morris ousted Elena Volobueva 6-3, 6-1 at No.5. In flight six action Lauren Osborne shook off a first set loss to down Gemma Halim 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. In the final match at No.4 East Tennessee State's Olya Batsula defeated Jacqueline Eckert 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to make the final score 5-2. The Lady Paladins return to action on Wednesday for a 3 PM match against Western Carolina in Greenville, SC.
