Lady Paladins Win Seventh Straight With Victory Over Catamounts

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman women's tennis team shutout the visiting Western Carolina Catamounts for the ninth consecutive time, defeating the Southern Conference foe 7-0 at Mickel Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Paladins (11-8, 7-0) have never lost to the Catamounts in 22 meetings. Western Carolina (5-11, 0-7) is still looking for its first conference win of the season.

For the seventh straight match, the Lady Paladins earned the doubles point. Furman, who has not lost a doubles point in conference play this year, won all three matches to secure the team point. Sophomore Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic remained undefeated in league action with an 8-4 win over Trish Hanson and Tessie Salame at number one. The pair is 14-5 on the season. Furman's number two and three doubles tandems each posted 8-1 victories.

The Lady Paladins rolled through the singles matches. Five of Furman's singles players kept their undefeated SoCon records intact, including Bonnie Baird (7-0) and Manojlovic (6-0) who posted shutout wins over their opponents. Gioia, ranked 123 by the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, defeated Salame, 6-0, 6-3, at number one. At flight five, Lauren Tomory lost only one game in a win over Mariona Trilla Jane. Lauren Osborne and Jacqueline Eckert were triumphant for the Lady Paladins.

Furman travels to College of Charleston in a matchup of the top two teams in the league. The match will begin at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 5 at the Patriots Point Tennis Center.
