Furman Women Slip By NC State 4-3

Raleigh, NC - The Furman women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 dual match victory over NC State Sunday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. With the win the Lady Paladins improved to 13-3 and picked up their 10th consecutive victory, dropping the Wolfpack to 8-10.

The Paladins won two of three doubles matches to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead going into singles play. NC State picked up two quick victories to take the 2-1 lead. At No.1 Barbara Orlay downed Mary Neill Hagood 6-1, 6-2 and in the No.4 slot Julia Roach defeated Jacqueline Eckert 6-1, 6-1. Lauren Osborne evened the score for the Lady Paladins with her 6-1, 7-5 win at No.6 before the Wolfpack took a 3-2 lead as Elin Stahl Johansson downed Shannon Moore 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No.3. Caroline Bentley made the score 3-3 as she eased by Virginia Romero at No.2 6-1, 6-4. In the deciding match at No. 5 singles, Marti Morris and NC State's Agustina Avechavaleta split the first two sets 6-4, 2-6 before Morris took the third, 6-4, to secure the 4-3 victory in favor of the Paladins.

The Lady Paladins return to action on Tuesday when they take on East Tennessee State in Johnson City, TN at 2:30 PM.
